(sung to “The Brady/Rugby Bunch”)
Here’s
the story of Olde New England
And the colonies that made up all its parts
They were people who cared about religion
They left England to follow their hearts.
The Puritans
The Puritans
Endecott brought
the Puritans
Massachusetts
Bay was where they settled
With the schools and the town meeting hall
Their leaders made everybody obey
And expelled those who didn’t heed the call.

Now minister
Roger Williams disagreed
He
believed in government “consent”
So the Puritans kicked him out of Salem
And
Rhode Island was where he went.

Master Thomas
Hooker was another
He
believed in the fundamental vote
His friends and he moved to Connecticut
For
religious freedom, farming, and hope.

Now where’s
New Hampshire come into this story?
Well, the answer is there for all to know
Although we may have been somewhat religious
Our colonists preferred to get the dough.
